Pastors United for Corrientes “In Favour of Life”
The Pastors United for Corrientes, that represent distinct cities of the province of Corrientes, held their most recent meeting in the city of Monte Caseros to declare their position in favour of life and against abortion.
As Christian ministers of God we believe and sustain that God is the Creator of the universe and because of that fact, also the Creator of life, as lawyer and pastor, Daniel Schipani, observes in his book titled “Pastoral Psychology of Abortion” (Psicología Pastoral del Aborto in Spanish):
“Throughout scripture God presents Himself as the source of life… and especially the source of human beings. Our life is precious and sacred simply because the origin of life is in God Himself, who has commanded us to take care of and protect it… The first key observation then becomes the dignity and value of each human being, which derives from God’s will, and not a human decision.”
Consequently, we believe that it is necessary to respect the laws already established by our government regarding Children’s Rights and in relation to this topic. Law 23.849 sanctioned on September 27, 1990, decided by the senate and chamber of deputies of the nation of Argentina, states in its second paragraph:
“…Related to article 1 of the Children’s Rights convention, the Republic of Argentina declares in said document that (a child) is interpreted and understood as any human being from the moment of its conception and until 18 years of age.”
Considering the different and present debates regarding the approval of the abortion law, its worries us that our society is discussing these types of laws, given that this law could introduce other laws related to death into focus, such as euthanasia. This being because the issue goes beyond a simple law, and shows us a downfall to the value that we place on life and its meaning.
The abortion law does not reflect our progress but rather evidently is directing us and our values backwards, to what was believed in ancient civilizations like Greece where life depended on the decision of one. For this reason, we as pastors and citizens of our beautiful nation Argentina, wish to make clear our opposition to this law and educate society about said issue and its future consequences.
We encourage our society to reflect on the value that we are giving to life.
